Frequency specific microcurrent (FSM) is a technique for treating pain by using low-level electrical current. The FSM machine is categorized as a TENS unit—transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator—and is approved by the FDA for pain. Specific frequencies are thought to resonate with certain soft tissues in the body. Current is delivered through wires connected to moist towels applied to affected areas of the body, delivering sub-sensory electrical pulses and triggering the body’s own pain killers to manage inflammation and enhance healing.

I typically work on clients who have been diagnosed and referred by doctors who are familiar with this technology. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact me.

The Cleveland Clinic offers a more in-depth look into how FSM works. And you’ll find a history of FSM here, on the website of Dr. Carolyn McMakin, who founded the practice in 1995.
